Free travel planning apps

Last updated August 2026

Free should not mean trying the planner until you hit a paywall. Awaii does not have that split today: one version, with the planning experience included.

Awaii ideas board with saved places for a trip still taking shape

Ideas, decisions, and the plan sit in the same trip.

A free tier is not the same as a free product

Most travel apps are free to download. That is not the same as the planner being free. A common model is a usable free tier for building an itinerary, then a paid plan for extras such as fuller offline access, export, documents, or automation.

That can be a fair trade if you want those extras. It is a different product from one version where ideas, decisions, itinerary, map, costs, packing, and export are included without a tier split.

Awaii is the second kind, today. Ideas, decisions, the itinerary, the map, costs, packing, and export are in that one version.

What “free” means for Awaii

Later, Awaii may add optional premium planning features and richer connected data sources. For now, there is one version of Awaii and the planning experience is included.

No dates, and no paid upgrade in the app today. If you want the trip available without a signal, that is included too — see how Awaii works offline.

How the products are offered

This is a comparison of models, not a scorecard. Cells for other apps were checked against each product’s official pages in August 2026. Plans change; we do not quote prices here.

What each model is for

Wanderlog

A strong fit for a dense itinerary and map. Official pages describe a free planner plus a Pro subscription. Offline access and Google Maps export sit with Pro; Wanderlog’s own writing also notes that some itinerary access offline can exist in the free version. See Awaii as a Wanderlog alternative for the planning-stage split.

Tripsy

A strong fit once bookings exist: flights, stays, documents, calendar, and alerts. Official pricing is a free layer plus Tripsy Pro. Export of itineraries and expenses is listed with Pro, as is forwarding reservations for offline storage.

Stippl

A broad all-in-one: itineraries, budgets, packing, journals, and collaboration. Official pages present a free start plus Stippl Pro extras — for example CSV expense export. Offline behavior for the whole trip is not stated clearly enough on those pages to pin down here, so the table says to check current plans.

Google tools

Docs, Sheets, Maps, and chat are free and familiar. The trip still lives across several apps. Offline and export depend on which Google product you are in. Fine for a small plan; brittle when ideas, dates, and bookings need one home.

Awaii

One version today for the messy middle: collect ideas, decide together, then keep the itinerary, map, costs, packing, and export with the trip. Built for iPhone. Not a replacement for a booking engine or a live flight tracker.

How we keep this page current

Pricing pages change. This article compares product models, not a price list. The table was checked against official Wanderlog, Tripsy, and Stippl pages in August 2026. If a capability could not be confirmed on those pages, the cell says so.
